Gallery1988 (WEST) is proud to announce that this Friday, June 21st, we will open “SPACE: The Gallery Show,” a group exhibit curated by artist Mike Mitchell. The show, which will celebrate the past, present & future of space exploration and the awesomeness that is the universe, will feature over 50 amazing artists all working in many different mediums. The show will feature new artwork from G1988 regulars like Mitchell, Scott C., Andrew DeGraff, Olly Moss, N.C. Winters and Justin White, but also include new names to the gallery, like Jeffrey Brown, Dave Correia, John Martz and Emily Partridge.

This show promises to be new, unique and memorable - and people may want to get to the gallery early for “first in line giveaways.”

The opening reception is THIS FRIDAY, from 7-10 PM. The night will also be hosted by Bobak Ferdowsi, everyone’s favorite Systems Engineer!

All the work will then go online the next afternoon for viewing and purchase at gallery1988.com.

The show will run through July 20th.

A lot of talk last night and today where people are sort of confused about the word “giclee” and how it works with prints like Glens’, which are listed as digital prints. Just to clarify how Glen Brogan’s prints were made, here is an explanation of the prints, which because of the paper & ink used, can also be considered “giclee,” we just chose to call them digital prints for the show (and for all of Glen’s work at G1988). This is from the company that printed them:

“Our giclée prints are printed in America with only top quality materials. We use only high quality cotton canvas and paper for our standard prints. These are NOT “Decor” quality prints. All of our materials meet and exceed the standards set forth by the Fine Art Trade Guild for pH and lightfastness. We are working closely with paper manufactures and artists to bring you the best quality product at a great price.”

UPDATE: The team behind the Jarritos ad have apologized to artist Matt Owen. Great job, Internet!

When the soda company Jarritos rented our old space on Melrose to hold “organic art events,” we didn’t expect them to also steal artwork from our past. Shame on you guys, pretending to be supporting the art community (or confuse people to think we’re involved), yet stealing this image from Matt Owen to promote your movie night and not crediting him. Just because you put a terrible Photoshop filter on it, doesn’t mean you can steal it. I wish people who support artists would get angrier about stuff like this.
